The anxiety of waiting for grant money is at an all-time high in 2025. As a PhD candidate and government contractor, I feel it, too. After all this financial and time investment, I wondered if my research would end unexpectedly.
I stayed up all night wondering how I'd pay for everything I needed to keep Jaxorik running.

Algorithms can analyze massive amounts of data even faster than overworked grad students. Even the most compute-heavy deep learning algorithms work faster than humans, but my team of researchers uses novel AI techniques to cut hours out of the time it takes a regular deep learning algorithm to train.
Now, you might think about how deep learning can be expensive, computer-wise. Of course, we agree. We have novel approaches to neural networks that cut down on resources depending on the project.

I'm from Los Alamos, New Mexico, famous for the atom bomb.
Growing up there, everyone was expected to choose a science, go to college, and return to work at the company town, Los Alamos National Lab. Yeah, I didn’t do that.
I went in a different direction and joined the Marine Corps. They made me a data scientist, and I learned how much I love this job.
Before I knew it, I was using my GI Bill to pursue an education in data science. I am almost done with my PhD!
I learned that I love using AI and machine learning to solve problems for scientists and other researchers. It literally is the coolest thing, in my opinion.
